Avoid Scams When Purchasing a Website
By hardinflash
If you've been thinking about purchasing a website online from someone there are some things you should understand. There are people all over the world looking to scam you out of your money and this is especially true when it comes to purchasing a website and it can be especially true for anyone knew to how internet marketing works & doesn't know about many of the different methods people can use to scam you out of your hard earned $$$$'s.
What to avoid
The number one thing you want to avoid is any emails or offers that sound too good to be true. Just about everything you find online that seems like it's too good to be true is definitely too good to be true or there's a bunch of fine print somewhere detailing that it is not as great as the big letters you can read say it is. So just make sure you don't buy something out of impulse because of how wonderful it seems.
This should also be a number one priority, never buy from people with out a sales record. Unless you can absolutely confirm everything the seller says and use an escrow service there's no reason to purchase from a first time seller. It doesn't matter if they have 30 testimonials listed somewhere if it shows they haven't sold anything yet on the website your purchasing from then treat them like someone that has the plague.
Request analytical data for their traffic sources. If you see a bunch of traffic from eastern European, Russia & under developed Asian countries it's because they're purchasing really really cheap crappy traffic that sells for about $8 every 10-20k visitors. Also you shouldn't believe screen shots. Almost every service that offers to track statistics will give full excel style report or a report in the form of a PDF file.
The main thing is to avoid anything to looks like it may be a little shady and stick to making your purchases through trusted sellers. Also remember to always use an escrow service, anyone unwilling to use escrow doesn't deserve your business.

Yea I was thinking about adding a few to my collection the other day and I couldn't believe how many scams I came across. There was a ton that were trying to make a legit complaint about not using an escrow service & it was people that had either very very few website sales or none at all on a legitimate site that I have made purchases on before. I'm actually thinking about completely halting any business I do through them in the future for their complete failure to monitor these listings. All these scammers are always thinking about the quick buck where if they take the time to make themselves legit they will end up with a lot more money in the long run as well as making people happy to do business with them.

Great and valid points to consider before purchasing a website! especially with the trend 'web flipping' for a profit. :)
